SAP Advanced Event Mesh now optionally comes with a customizable event connector for SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA systems: The Event Add-on for ERP: it installs directly on your SAP system, captures business events in real time and publishes them to the AEM broker – without any custom ABAP development.

The Add-on supports all standard SAP event sources: RAP Events (first choice for SAP S/4HANA), Business Object Repository (BOR), Business Transaction Events (BTE) and Change Documents. Every purchase order, goods movement, financial posting or status change is available as a structured CloudEvents-compliant message on AEM within milliseconds.

From SAP Discovery Center order to first live events – typically in under two weeks.

License via SAP Discovery Center

Book the "Connections" metric for SAP Advanced Event Mesh in your SAP BTP subaccount. Available under CPEA, BTPEA and pay-as-you-go. The Event Add-on for ERP component is activated alongside the AEM broker service.

Enable the Add-on flag in your broker

In your SAP BTP subaccount, activate the "Event Add-on for ERP" flag for the AEM broker instance you want to connect. This authorises the add-on to communicate with that specific broker.

Import the SAP transport into your system

Import the Event Add-on for ERP component (ASAAEMEE) into your SAP system alongside the base ASAPIO Integration Add-on (ASANWEE). Both components install via standard SAP transport import or SAP Maintenance Planner.

Configure and start sending events

Create an RFC destination pointing to your AEM broker, apply the implementation guide settings, then use ASAPIO Event Studio to define payloads, triggers and interfaces. First events reach AEM within hours.

What is SAP Advanced Event Mesh and how does it differ from SAP Integration Suite?

SAP Advanced Event Mesh (AEM) is an enterprise event broker and messaging service based on pub/sub architecture. It decouples producers from consumers: a system publishes an event once and all interested subscribers receive it independently. SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration (iFlow-based) is an orchestration and transformation layer – typically polling APIs or waiting for triggered calls. AEM and Cloud Integration are complementary: AEM handles real-time event distribution at scale, while Cloud Integration handles downstream routing, enrichment and transformation. Many customers use both together.

What is the Event Add-on for ERP and why is it needed?

If you need a solution for customizable payload, event filtering, the option for batch loads as well as real-time loads, the Event Add-on for ERP fills this gap: it installs directly on your SAP ABAP system and captures business events – purchase orders, goods movements, financial postings and change documents – and publishes them to AEM in real time, without any custom ABAP development. It is the official bridge between your ABAP landscape and the event mesh.

What is the difference between the ASAPIO Integration Add-on and the Event Add-on for ERP?

The Event Add-on for ERP (component ASAAEMEE) is the SAP OEM edition of the ASAPIO Integration Add-on, bundled specifically for SAP Advanced Event Mesh. It requires the base ASAPIO Integration Add-on (ASANWEE) and adds the AEM-specific transport component on top. Commercially, the Event Add-on for ERP is ordered via SAP Discovery Center and covered by SAP terms. The ASAPIO Integration Add-on is available directly from ASAPIO and supports a broader range of target systems (Azure, Kafka, AWS, Solace, Google, StreamSets and more). Technically, both components share the same ASAPIO core.

Which SAP systems are supported?

Do I need an SAP BTP account to use the Event Add-on for ERP?

Yes. SAP Advanced Event Mesh is a BTP service, so you need an active SAP BTP subaccount or subscription with CPEA, BTPEA, subscription or pay-as-you-go credits. The Event Add-on for ERP installs on your SAP ABAP system on-premise or in private cloud, but it communicates with the AEM broker that runs on BTP. The AEM broker is licensed separately via SAP using the "Connections" metric.

Can SAP Advanced Event Mesh receive data back into SAP (inbound)?

Yes. The Event Add-on for ERP supports bidirectional communication. Outbound: SAP publishes CloudEvents to AEM in real time. Inbound: external systems publish messages to AEM topics and the add-on subscribes and writes data back into SAP using standard integration methods. This enables end-to-end workflows – for example, a delivery confirmation from a logistics partner that lands directly in SAP as a goods receipt.

Can the Event Add-on for ERP work alongside existing SAP Integration Suite iFlows?

Yes, and this is a common production pattern. The Event Add-on for ERP handles the SAP ABAP-side event capture and publishes structured messages to AEM. SAP Integration Suite, Cloud Integration iFlows can subscribe to those AEM topics and perform downstream routing, format transformation or delivery to external APIs. Neither product replaces the other: AEM excels at high-throughput, low-latency event distribution; Cloud Integration excels at complex orchestration and protocol mediation.
